Blasphemy in Islam

Islam is not just a religion it is also a political and legal system and ideally there is no separation between church and state. Throughout the Islamic world strong forces are demanding a return to this ideal situation as practised at the time of Muhammad.

According to the usual experts, Indonesia in one of the most liberal Muslim countries in the world. The recent conviction and jailing of the ethnic Chinese, Christian Governor of Jakarta for 2 years is a prime indicator of the future of Islam in the country closest to Australia. The case hinged upon a verse in the Quran, Al Ma'idah 51:

O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliya' (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but Auliya' to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya', then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers and unjust). - Quran (5:51)

It's pretty obvious that the basic message of the Quran is not tolerance and respect for other religions, quite the reverse. Governor "Ahok" Basuki made the public statement that clerics had used this verse to mislead voters by telling them that Muslims were not allowed to vote for a Christian. He has denied wrongdoing, and said he was not criticising the Koran, but rather the clerics' interpretation of the verse. Most Australian would agree that the clerics' interpretation was correct, its pretty straightforward. Most Australians would agree that its ridiculous to say this is blasphemy. Most Australians would agree that saying Allah is the Devil and Muhammad was a child-raping, treacherous and vicious warlord is correct but its blasphemous to a Muslim.

In this DEI 21st century there are countless learned articles giving manifold interpretations of Sharia law to the nth niceness proving that blasphemy is slapsphemy in Islam and receives nothing more than a slap on the wrist. On the other hand, if you extend it as Jesus taught about receiving a slap on the wrist, this a map of the world showing countries and their punishment for blasphemers.
